Why I’m Sweating with Pride
In June, I am taking part in Sweat with Pride to raise funds for our LGBTQ+ communities!
Despite progress, schools, workplaces, and doctors' offices remain dangerous environments for many members of the LGBTQ+ community in New Zealand. This ongoing issue puts lives at risk.
Over half of our diverse whānau (family) has struggled with mental illness. Shockingly, one in five of our rainbow rangatahi (young persons) have attempted to end their own lives. Meanwhile, STIs that can have long-lasting effects on one's health, such as syphilis, mumps, and HIV, are still prevalent among our community. This needs to change.
This challenge raises donations that go towards providing vital mental, physical, and sexual health support for LGBTQ+ individuals in New Zealand and massively improves the quality of life of those who typically are struggling to find an equal footing in locations where we should all feel safe and supported.
This cause holds great significance to me because of my own battles with mental health and losing friends who suffered both mentally and physically.
So, in June, I will actively join the fight against discrimination by committing to daily exercise for at least 21 minutes. The goal is not only to raise funds for Rainbow Kiwis but also to improve my own health.
I am hoping for a donation and your support in my endeavours. Your help will not only benefit the LGBTQ+ community through this outstanding campaign but also motivate me towards a healthier lifestyle myself.
So thank you so much ❤️
