I did it! Amongst the madness of the day I managed to go for a walk. It was honestly a great thing to do in the middle of Etta's belated Bday party while a Burrito war was afoot as it was extremely loud in there.
It was a lovely little walk around the block! While walking I noticed some beautiful little pink flowers, another neighbours chokos (not as big as mine but a much bigger vine) and quite a few different thrushes and blackbirds hopping around.
Being just over a week testing negative for Covid I'm going to take things pretty easy this challenge BUT I'm definitely going to make a sincere effort to do my 21 minutes a day - even if it may have to happen over a few little bursts of energy.
Wish me luck!
This is my third year sweating
I’m sweating to celebrate and uplift my Rainbow whānau
Why I’m Sweating with Pride
Sweat with Pride supports many 🌈 LGBTQIA+ charities that are dear to my heart <3 .
The wonderful people in our rainbow communities are still not safe in many spaces in our nation. Consequently, they have some of the highest rates of mental illness, suicide, and STIs like syphilis and HIV.
The anti LGBTQIA+ rhetoric has directly impacted our whanau this year when Destiny Church stormed the Te Atatu Library our kids were in enjoying a science show put on by wonderful Drag King Hugo Grrrl. It was extremely scary for our whanau and the effects definitely reverberated through our rainbow community - particularly our trans and NB people.
The words of those in government currently are also not helping. Our rainbow communities need to feel safe, supported and loved and doing Sweat with Pride is one way I can attempt to show that many of us do care.
So, I'm fighting discrimination with perspiration—exercising 21 minutes every day in June to raise money for life-changing Rainbow support services.
This cause means the world to me, and I’d be grateful if you could chip in to help me reach my goal. Every dollar makes a difference.
I know times are financially tough and monetary donations are not possible for all. Even just sharing this page (or others) are sharing information to help destigmatise our rainbow friends and whanau is still extremely important. We can't all share money but we can all share information and aroha ❤️
Thank you so much for your support!
