Why I’m Sweating with Pride
I’m taking on Sweat with Pride this June to raise money for our Rainbow communities! 💦🌈
Our schools, workplaces, and doctors’ offices are still not safe places for many Rainbow New Zealanders and it’s putting lives at risk.
More than half our rainbow whānau have experienced mental illness. One in five of our rainbow rangatahi (youth) have attempted suicide. And life changing STIs like syphilis, mpox and HIV are still far too common. Things need to change.
Not only this, but right now we have people in positions of power, both in our community and our government, making concerted efforts to take away the mana and the strength of our rainbow communities and their allies. This is not ok.
So, this June I’m fighting discrimination with perspiration, and I've committed to exercising for at least 42 minutes EVERY DAY to raise money to support Rainbow Kiwis.
Every dollar raised will fund life-changing mental, physical and sexual health services for Rainbow New Zealanders. Every koha, even the little ones, even no koha and just sharing this page, helps show our rainbow friends and whanau that we care.

My Updates
So, my plan for today was to:
a. Go to work.
b. Go to Westwave for a swim and a sauna
What's actually happened is that:
a. Etta is really sick. Like, too sick for me to hoist her off onto a non-parent person.
b. Murray is at an important working bee all weekend so it's just me, myself and I
c. I am not going to work and have to work out something to do at home.
So today's 'sweat' is being done in the garden rather than the sauna!
I can't complain really. It's not like it doesn't need doing. And while Etta's body is sick, their mind is still super active so they are busy building terrariums and my gardening is uncovering potential terrarium occupants (slaters).
I still have a few minutes left to sweat but I plan on doing some pre-bedtime yoga so I'm not too worried about it.
Tomorrow will be much the same so I'm not getting all the gardening done today. If Etta's a bit brighter (or Abby's too bored) I might chuck on some Let's Dance videos on Youtube and go crazy.
Who knows what tomorrow might bring? Share
