Why I’m Sweating with Pride

I’m taking on Sweat with Pride this June to raise money for our Rainbow communities! 💦🌈

Our schools, workplaces, and doctors’ offices are still not safe places for many Rainbow New Zealanders and it’s putting lives at risk.

More than half our rainbow whānau have experienced mental illness. One in five of our rainbow rangatahi (youth) have attempted suicide. And life changing STIs like syphilis, mpox and HIV are still far too common. Things need to change.

So, this June I’m fighting discrimination with perspiration, and I've committed to exercising for at least 21 minutes EVERY DAY to raise money to support Rainbow Kiwis.

This cause means a lot to me. I’d be SO GRATEFUL if you could chip in to help me reach my goal. Every dollar I raise will fund life-changing mental, physical and sexual health services for Rainbow New Zealanders.

We did it!

Thank you all for your support, it's been an amazing journey this this month:
- We individually raised hundreds of dollars ourselves for this charity: Tick.
- As a whole, over $750,000 raised! In this climate, just wow! Tick.
- Your generosity gave me motivation to rehabilitate gently, and correctly in June from an acute and chronic injury I received early in April, wow :0) :0) ;0) Tick Tick Tick. No hobbling around the office. 
- Well 3 mins left to sweat today 1257, and my sweat goal of 42 mins a day or total 1260 mins for June done amazing! Strava uploads to my SWP page as proof.

Week Two - Halfway point update -1 day behind schedule.

Sunday 16th Jun
Halfway and 42 mins, my daily goal, behind my sweat goal of 630 mins by this time (588). Time to 'turn up the burn'. So plan for week 3three, commuting to the train station and back by cycle 3 days a week. This will have to be boosted by adding by 20 min treadmill work by getting straight off the bike and into the garage for the walk workout. The two days I work from home, 45 min lunchtime cycles. Back to Zone 2 here. Yes weather is going to be cold and foul by the looks, fingers crossed though. thanks for the support guys.

Wow went ok. Zone 2 training proved more difficult than expected. My Strava link played up, not registering the walks. Weight went down a tiny bit (see pic), fitness level stayed about the same and muscles are wasting away by the minute. 
So, week two loads of Zone 1 exercise each day and a lunchtime sponsored walk on Thursday 13th June

Spent my session today picking up thrown rubbish out of cars along a 4km stretch of rural Upper Hutt Road. Two bags full and my pick-up thingy stick broke too!

Challenge: To sweat mostly in heart range Zone 2, 121 to 132 beats per minute, for an average 42 mins a day, with 2 rest days each week (staying responsible). Will I get fitter? Will I lose some of that last holiday weight? Only time will tell. 

Today 1st June 54 mins indoor bike 100% Zone  2. Yes I was sweating to my amazement it’s really tough to do👍🚴
