Why I’m Sweating with Pride

I’m taking on Sweat with Pride this June to raise money for our Rainbow communities! 💦🌈

Our schools, workplaces, and doctors’ offices are still not safe places for many Rainbow New Zealanders and it’s putting lives at risk.

More than half our rainbow whānau have experienced mental illness. One in five of our rainbow rangatahi (youth) have attempted suicide. And life changing STIs like syphilis, mpox and HIV are still far too common. Things need to change.

So, this June I’m fighting discrimination with perspiration, and I've committed to exercising for at least 21 minutes EVERY DAY to raise money to support Rainbow Kiwis.

This cause means a lot to me. I’d be SO GRATEFUL if you could chip in to help me reach my goal. Every dollar I raise will fund life-changing mental, physical and sexual health services for Rainbow New Zealanders.

Thank you sooooo much ❤️

My Updates

Day 4

Tuesday 4th Jun
Still recovering from the last couple of days, so today I walked around in a circle for half an hour! Surprisingly nice, but not a good idea to close your eyes while doing so. It wasn't particularly difficult so all going well I should still have enough energy to walk into town tomorrow.

Day 2/3 (yes I forgot Day 2 lol)

Monday 3rd Jun
Wish I could've done more over Days 2 and 3 but unfortunately random body aches exist! I kept it extremely light for myself over Day 2 with some basic meditation and stretches with much of the same on Day 3 plus an added rep of sit-ups to push my limits a little.
Thankfully over the course of the day I've been feeling lesser amounts of pain, so hopefully if this keeps up I should be able to take a nice long walk into town tomorrow! Fingers crossed, but we'll have to wait and see. 🤞

Day 1 of SWP!!!!

Saturday 1st Jun
For the record, no I'm probably not doing daily blog posts lol

I'm recovering from something (I have no idea what) so today was definitely a little more challenging than it would've been otherwise, and add on my general unfitness it was an absolute struggle. I did it though!!!! I didn't end up getting around to it until after sunset but I think being able to space out and walk under the stars was totally what I needed!

There was a good bit of off and on wind which made eating my own hair an unfortunately common event. Other than that, nothing to really complain about.

Am I super tired? Yes. Do I regret it? Not in the slightest!! I'm so happy that I decided to sign up for SWP this year and I'm also super proud of myself for making this commitment, not just for myself but also for our rainbow rangatahi around the motu.

Bring on Day 2!!!
